NRA-PVF Endorses Max Baucus for U.S. Senate

Thursday, October 23, 2008

Fairfax, VA. - The National Rifle Association's Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) Chairman Chris W. Cox traveled to Helena, Montana on October 24 and endorsed Montana Senator Max Baucus for United States Senate.

"Senator Baucus is a true champion of our Second Amendment freedom and hunting heritage," said Cox. "I'm proud to be with him today and announce his NRA-PVF endorsement. We look forward to continuing to work together on behalf of Montana gun owners and sportsmen.

"Max's support for our gun rights and hunting heritage often puts him in the minority - sometimes within the Senate chamber and sometimes within his own party, but that does not stop him from doing what is right," continued Cox.

"I'm deeply honored by this endorsement; in Montana we hold our Second Amendment rights as second to none," Baucus said. "I will always fight for Montanans right to keep and bear arms."

Sen. Baucus supported the effort to repeal D.C.'s draconian gun ban, and was one of the first to sign the bipartisan Congressional amicus brief in the historic Heller case arguing that the Second Amendment protects our individual right to keep and bear arms. He also led the effort to end frivolous lawsuits aimed at bankrupting America's firearms industry, supported the BATFE Reform bill, and he voted for legislation to prohibit gun confiscation during states of emergency.

Sen. Baucus has also supported right-to-carry laws for self-defense, and was the only Democratic U.S. Senator to stand with the NRA and vote "no" on the Lautenberg gun show amendment that sought to put every gun show out of business across the country.

"Montana gun owners value their right to own firearms, and Max Baucus is the best candidate to help them preserve that freedom." Cox concluded, "We urge all NRA members and gun owners to vote for Senator Baucus' re-election to the U.S. Senate on November 4."
