NRA-PVF Urges Voters to Support Shelly Short for Election to Washington House District 7

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Fairfax, VA - The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) urges voters to support Shelly Short for election in Washington's 7th Legislative District on November 4. Short has received an 'A' rating and endorsement from NRA-PVF.

"Shelly Short has a strong commitment to the Second Amendment and our country's rich hunting heritage," said Chris W. Cox. "Shelly Short is a solid advocate for the right to keep and bear arms in Washington. As a gun owner and NRA member, she believes that the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms and defend themselves and their families must be protected."

Shelly Short's opponent, Sue Lani Madsen, stands in stark contrast to Short's commitment to the Second Amendment. On her campaign blog and in communication with constituents, Sue Lani Madsen has made an issue regarding her poor NRA rating and the NRA endorsement of her opponent, Shelly Short.

In past conversations with NRA, Madsen expressed support for gun-owner licensing and registration of legally owned firearms - a fundamental disagreement with NRA's legislative priorities. In addition, Madsen recently published an entry on her website acknowledging her indecision on licensing and registration. NRA-PVF and Washington gun owners in House District 7 cannot ignore this position, and as a result NRA-PVF has downgraded Sue Lani Madsen from a 'B' to a 'C' rating.

"Sportsmen and gun owners in Washington can trust that Shelly Short understands and will support and defend their Second Amendment rights," Cox continued. "We urge all NRA members and gun owners in Washington House District 7 to vote for Shelly Short on November 4."

Chris W. Cox serves as Chairman of NRA-PVF. The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is responsible for political candidate rankings. These are based on candidate voting records, public statements and responses to NRA-PVF questionnaires.
