In an astonishing and rare procedural shift, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to produce an expected narrow decision on a critical First Amendment case before its last term ended. Instead, the court deferred its ruling and ordered a new hearing--calling for the case to be re-argued under a vastly broadened scope--scheduled for September, even before its new term begins.

Right-to-Carry is not a new concept. It` been the law in Tennessee for more than ten years. A 1998 article in the Tennessean newspaper carried the incredulous headline, "Gun law hasn`t led to carnage"--as if this were a big surprise.

Everyone now knows the danger the Obama-Biden White House poses to the rights of law-abiding gun owners. We watched as President Barack Obama assembled his team from among the most anti-gun zealots to ever hold public office. With Hillary Clinton, Tom Daschle and Eric Holder in the cabinet, and Rahm Emanuel as chief of staff, America's gun owners know the dangers we face and that our friends in Congress will be mightily challenged in their defense of America's beloved Second Amendment.

With a new presidential administration that is hostile to private firearm ownership now in office, we`ll likely be hearing a renewed torrent of anti-gun rhetoric coming from all directions. As we prepare for these challenges and arguments, it`s a good time to recall some important quotes that provide a long-term perspective.

On the heels of naming gun-banner Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff, Barack Obama once again puts the lie to his supposed support of the Second Amendment by selecting former Clintonite and gun-hater Eric Holder as attorney general.

One of the most stinging blows that Hillary Clinton delivered to Barack Obama's presidential campaign came when she mocked his motto "change you can believe in," by altering it to "change you can Xerox." Now, even as she prepares to join the Obama administration as secretary of state, her criticism is ringing true. Ironically, her own appointment is the most obvious example. Obama is staffing his administration from top to bottom with refugees from the Clinton White House, including two of the most aggressive anti-gun operatives of that era. They, in turn, promise to bring the same approach to the Second Amendment that Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Janet Reno pioneered.

Last year, when then-Senator Barack Obama told his adoring faithful, "we are the ones we`ve been waiting for," anti-gun groups must have thought he was talking to them.
