NRA-PVF Endorses U.S. Rep. Alan Mollohan for Re-election in West Virginia's 1st Congressional District Democratic Primary

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Fairfax, Va. - Today the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is announcing its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-WV) for re-election in West Virginia's Democratic primary election on May 11th.

Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF stated, "The National Rifle Association is proud to lend our support to Alan Mollohan because of his outstanding record as a staunch defender of the Second Amendment freedoms of law-abiding gun owners, hunters and sportsmen in West Virginia."

During his time in Congress, Rep. Mollohan has demonstrated a proven and consistent commitment to protecting the Second Amendment rights of West Virginians, and all Americans. In 2006, his objection on the House floor to abolish the explosives tax saved American gun owners from paying a tax on every pound of explosives or black powder. By striking this provision, he saved American gun owners and sportsmen from a new $30 million ammunition tax. Rep. Mollohan also sponsored and voted for legislation enacted into law to curb bogus lawsuits against gun manufacturers and voted to prohibit gun confiscation during states of emergency. He also sponsored the national right-to-carry reciprocity bill, which would allow any person with a valid concealed firearm carrying license or permit, issued by a state, to carry a concealed firearm in any state. Rep. Mollohan helped to restore self-defense rights in our nation's capital by cosponsoring and voting for the D.C. Personal Protection Act and the Second Amendment Enforcement Act, as well as signing the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the Supreme Court supporting our individual right to keep and bear arms in the Heller case. Most recently, he signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief stating that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments in the McDonald case, which is now before the Supreme Court. Rep. Mollohan also cosponsorsed and supported legislation to force reform at the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Rep. Mollohan's unwavering support for the Second Amendment in the U.S. House of Representatives has earned him the NRA-PVF's highest rating, an "A+," and the endorsement from NRA-PVF.

"On May 11th, I urge all West Virginia NRA members and gun owners to re-elect Alan Mollohan to West Virginia's 1st Congressional District," Cox concluded.
