2008 Presidential Campaign Survey

Welcome to the NRA Political Victory Fund's 2008 Presidential Campaign Survey.

Here you'll have an opportunity to compare your views on thirteen key Second Amendment issues with those of leading presidential candidates Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain.

At the end of the Survey, you'll receive a score to see how many times you agree with each of the candidates.  And, you'll have the opportunity to send this Survey to your gun-owning friends so that they can compare their views with those of Senators Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain.

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) Senator John McCain (R-AZ)

1 : In Washington, D.C., most citizens are banned from defending themselves with firearms by laws which outlaw handgun ownership and require rifles and shotguns to be stored locked and unloaded. Do you support Washington D.C.'s ban on handgun ownership? Yes  No
2 : In 40 states, law abiding citizens have the right to obtain a "Right-to-Carry" permit and carry a concealed firearm for self-defense. Do you support these Right-to-Carry laws? Yes  No
3 : Do you believe that law-abiding citizens should be required to obtain a government-issued license before they're allowed to purchase a firearm? Yes  No
4 : Do you support legislation that would give the government the power to limit your gun purchases to one a month? Yes  No
5 : Are you in favor of legislation that would close down the vast majority of gun stores by banning gun stores within five miles of a school or park? Yes  No
6 : Do you support the current federal law that prohibits anti-gun elected officials from using predatory lawsuits to bankrupt American firearms makers under a mountain of legal bills? Yes  No
7 : Do you support a centralized, computerized federal gun registry? Yes  No
8 : Do you support Senator Ted Kennedy's legislation to ban virtually all hunting ammunition? Yes  No
9 : Did you support the confirmation of Justice Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court? Yes  No
10 : Did you support the confirmation of Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court? Yes  No
11 : In recent years, several states have enacted "Castle Doctrine" legislation to strengthen the right to self-defense. These laws guarantee citizens the right to meet force with force if they're attacked in their homes, or any other place they have a legal right to be. Do you support these "Castle Doctrine" laws? Yes  No
12 : Gun-banners are pushing for a backdoor gun registration scheme called "ballistics fingerprinting" -- requiring every firearm sold in America to be test-fired and the markings left on the bullet and/or cartridge case recorded and entered into a database. The State of Maryland has spent millions of dollars on ballistics fingerprinting without solving a single crime. Are you in favor of "ballistics fingerprinting" legislation? Yes  No
13 : Do you support the renewal of the Clinton Gun Ban and an expansion of this ban to include millions more rifles, shotguns, and handguns? Yes  No
