San Francisco PD Dead Last In Solving Violent Crime

Violent criminals who prey on San Francisco`s residents and visitors have a better chance of getting away with their crimes than predators in any other large American city. The city`s police department solved, on average, just 28% of the city`s murders, rapes, robberies, shootings, stabbings and other serious assaults between 1996 and 2000, a San Francisco Chronicle computer analysis shows. Assistant Police Chief Earl Sanders defended the department`s performance, saying the SFPD has chosen to emphasize crime suppression over crime solution--with a strong presence of uniformed officers on the street.
