The Soldiers' Christmas

On these days of celebration, we should also remember and give
thanks for the soldier. For those who go in harm's way, Christmas
has often been a day of sacrifice, and valor. Two hundred
twenty-six Christmas Eves ago, George Washington crossed the
Delaware. Christmas Day, 1776, was spent marching to Trenton for
the battle on December 26. On Christmas Day 1944, the Screaming
Eagles of the 101st Airborne, surrounded in Bastogne, held off a
furious German assault before being rescued by Patton's Third Army
the following day.
