NRA-PVF Endorses Steve Kagen for Re-Election to U.S. House of Representatives

Thursday, October 16, 2008

FAIRFAX, VA-The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing Congressman Steve Kagen for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in the eighth congressional district of Wisconsin.

"Rep. Kagen is a strong advocate for freedom and for defending the rights of Wisconsin's gun owners, hunters and sportsmen," said Chris W. Cox, Chairman of NRA-PVF. "Kagen has worked to preserve the self-defense rights of law-abiding residents and also to safeguard our great hunting tradition for future generations. In his first term, Steve Kagen has proven his steadfast commitment to preserving our Second Amendment freedoms."

"I am proud of my record during my first two years in Congress in defending every citizens' Second Amendment rights. In Wisconsin, we have a rich heritage of hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation. This tradition has been passed down through generations, and as long as I serve in Congress, and with the support of the NRA, I will continue to stand up for my constituents, even against my own party, to ensure that each and every individuals' right to keep and bear arms will continue for future generations," said Congressman Kagen.

Rep. Kagen helped lead the Congressional effort to repeal D.C.'s gun ban by way of the Second Amendment Enforcement Act, and signed the bipartisan Congressional amicus brief in the historic Heller case arguing that the Second Amendment protects our individual right to keep and bear arms. Steve Kagen also cosponsored the BATFE Reform bill that seeks to modernize and improve BATFE operations by rolling back unnecessary restrictions, correcting errors and clarifying longstanding congressional policies in the firearms arena, and voted for legislation enacted into law to prohibit gun confiscation during states of emergency. He also voted against the Inslee Amendment that would ban the sports hunting of polar bears and voted to protect hunting, fishing and recreational shooting on Bureau of Land Management areas.

Because of his steadfast support for the Second Amendment, Steve Kagen has earned an "A" rating from NRA-PVF.

"This November 4th, I urge all NRA members and Wisconsin gun owners to vote for Steve Kagen," Cox concluded. "The people of Wisconsin value their freedom, and Steve Kagen is the best candidate to serve them."
