NRA-PVF Endorses Tom Emmer For Minnesota Governor

Monday, September 27, 2010

Fairfax, VA -- The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing Tom Emmer for Minnesota Governor.

"Tom Emmer has earned the NRA-PVF endorsement for his solid pro-gun record," said Chris W. Cox, chairman of the NRA-PVF. "His commitment to preserving our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage makes Tom Emmer the clear choice for Minnesota gun owners."

As a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Emmer voted for several bills to protect Minnesota gun owners including: Minnesota's Personal Protection Act; range protection; a hunting provision allowing the transport of firearms uncased and unloaded; and right-to-carry permit confidentiality.  He also voted against a bill that would ban the private transfer of firearms. Because of his consistent support for individual gun ownership rights, Tom Emmer has earned an "A+" rating from the NRA-PVF.

In contrast, Emmer's opponent, Mark Dayton, has earned an "F" rating from the NRA-PVF for his history of anti-gun activism.  While serving in Congress, Dayton voted for an extension of the failed Clinton gun ban and voted in favor of a ban on the private transfer of firearms.  He also voted against the Protection of Lawful Commerce of Arms Act, as well as an amendment that would have banned commonly used hunting ammunition.

Minnesotans can count on Tom Emmer to fight for them as governor," Cox continued. "We urge all Minnesota gun owners and sportsmen to vote Tom Emmer for Governor on November 2."

Chris W. Cox is NRA's chief lobbyist. He also serves as chairman of NRA-PVF. The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is responsible for political candidate rankings. These are based on candidate voting records, public statements and responses to NRA-PVF questionnaires.
