Albuquerque Mayoral Candidate Brian Colon Joins Keller on Bloomberg Gun Control Bandwagon!
Albuquerque Mayoral Candidate Brian Colon Joins Keller on Bloomberg Gun Control Bandwagon!

Albuquerque Mayoral candidate Brian Colon has joined candidate Tim Keller in voicing his support for New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun agenda, which includes a ban on private firearms transfers – even between family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.  This is the same misguided proposal that failed due to bipartisan opposition in the New Mexico Legislature earlier this year!  Please contact the Keller and Colon campaigns to let them know you do not support Bloomberg’s intrusive, ineffective and unenforceable gun control plans, which only impact law-abiding citizens while criminals will continue to ignore the law.

We had previously reported on Keller embracing the policies being pushed by Bloomberg’s national gun control organizations, Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action.  More recently, at a candidate forum sponsored by the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice, Brian Colon jumped on the anti-freedom bandwagon.

Participating candidates were asked the following question: “Do you support background checks on private firearms transactions and closing the gun show loophole?  Colon firmly and succinctly responded, “Yes and yes.”  You can view five of the candidates’ responses to this question here.

Colon is the former chair of the state Democratic Party, the organization which blasted pro-Second Amendment candidate Dan Lewis for hosting a clay shoot fundraiser last month – criticizing him for a “shocking lack of sensitivity for Albuquerque’s crime crisis” considering the city’s high murder rate.  Lewis responded by saying that party officials couldn’t tell the difference between lawful gun owners participating in a competition and violent street criminals.

Lewis also made it clear at the aforementioned forum that he did not support the gun control proposals in question, and he called for more aggressive enforcement of laws already on the books – including cracking down on the illegal possession of firearms by felons and getting tough on repeat violent offenders.

Early voting begins in the Albuquerque mayoral and city council elections on Wednesday, September 13.  Election Day is Tuesday, October 3.
