NRA-PVF Endorses Nathan Deal in Georgia's Republican Gubernatorial Primary Runoff Election

Friday, July 23, 2010

Fairfax, Va. - The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is announcing its endorsement of Nathan Deal in Georgia's Republican Primary runoff election on August 10th.

"In politics, one can learn the character of a person by working with them over time," said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. "I have worked with Nathan Deal for more than a decade, and his record as a U.S. Representative and as a Second Amendment supporter is stellar. His constant and unapologetic support for gun rights in Congress demonstrates a strong commitment to the rights of law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen."

Deal's leadership helped pass the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which prevents shameless attempts to bankrupt the American gun industry through bogus lawsuits. He also supported efforts to restore the rights of residents in our nation's capital to own and use a firearm to protect their families. Further, he helped pass the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act, which prohibits the confiscation of lawfully possessed firearms during states of emergency or a natural disaster.

In Heller v District of Columbia, Deal signed the historic pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the Supreme Court arguing that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right. Less than two years later, he also signed the congressional amicus brief to the Court in McDonald v Chicago, stating that the Second Amendment protects a fundamental right that applies to all law-abiding Americans regardless of where they live.

Based on his longstanding record of leadership, Nathan Deal has earned an "A" rating and endorsement from the NRA-PVF.

"Nathan Deal is the clear choice for Georgia's gun owners and sportsmen in this primary election," concluded Cox. "We urge our members and all gun owners and sportsmen in Georgia to vote for Nathan Deal in the Republican runoff election on August 10th."

Chris W. Cox is NRA's chief lobbyist. He also serves as chairman of NRA-PVF. The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is responsible for political candidate rankings. These are based on candidate voting records, public statements and responses to NRA-PVF questionnaires.
