NRA Endorses Paul LePage for Governor of Maine

Fairfax, Va. – On behalf of our five million members across the country, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is proud to endorse Paul LePage for reelection as Governor of Maine.

Based on his leadership on Second Amendment issues, LePage has earned an “A+” rating from the NRA-PVF in the 2014 general election.  An “A+” is the highest possible rating and is reserved for elected officials with an excellent public record on critical NRA issues who have also made a vigorous effort to promote and defend the Second Amendment.

“As Governor, Paul LePage has been an outspoken defender of the Second Amendment and hunting rights in Maine,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of the NRA-PVF.  “He vetoed anti-gun legislation that would have restricted our right to keep and bear arms and is leading the charge to defeat the current ‘anti-bear hunting’ ballot question.”

Gov. LePage signed a bill to protect the identity and personal information of concealed carry permit holders from intrusive media outlets.  He recognizes hunting is a valuable tool not only for wildlife management and conservation, but also for teaching young people responsibility and respect for the outdoors. LePage rejects expanded licensing and registration schemes, and so-called “universal” background checks which include restrictions on transferring firearms between life-long friends and many family members.

“We can count on Paul LePage to stand up for our constitutional freedoms in Maine,” added Cox.  “On behalf of the NRA’s five million members, I want to thank Paul for his steadfast support of the Second Amendment and urge all NRA members, gun owners and sportsmen in Maine to vote Paul LePage for governor on November 4.”

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America's oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group. More than five million members strong, NRA continues to uphold the Second Amendment and advocates enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the armed services.
