NRA-PVF Endorses Kent Sorenson for Iowa’s 37th Senate District

Friday, October 1, 2010

Fairfax, Va. -- National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) has endorsed Kent Sorenson for election to the Iowa Senate in Senate District 37. The endorsement was made Monday, September 27. (Read the endorsement letter)

"The NRA-PVF is endorsing Kent Sorenson because he is a strong defender of the Second Amendment freedoms of law-abiding gun owners, hunters and sportsmen in Iowa," said Chris W. Cox, chairman of the NRA-PVF.

As a member of the Iowa House, Sorenson has demonstrated his commitment to our Second Amendment rights by supporting Iowa's comprehensive "shall-issue" legislation -- SF 2379 -- making Iowa the 39th "shall-issue" state. He sponsored NRA-supported legislation to make Iowa a "constitutional carry" state and cosponsored a number of pro-gun bills, including legislation to allow Iowans to defend themselves against deadly force.

In contrast, his opponent, Staci Appel, has embarked on an anti-gun campaign against Sorenson, purporting that he is "too pro-gun." Some of the attacks also suggest Staci Appel supports gun restrictions that infringe on the freedoms that many Iowans and Americans already enjoy. It is clear that Staci Appel is no friend to gun owners in Iowa.

"Kent Sorenson is the clear choice for law-abiding gun owners in Iowa's 37th Senate District," concluded Cox. "On November 2, I urge all Iowa NRA members and gun owners to vote for the one candidate in this race with a proven record of standing up for our rights -- Kent Sorenson."

Chris W. Cox is NRA's chief lobbyist. He also serves as chairman of NRA-PVF. The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is responsible for political candidate rankings. These are based on candidate voting records, public statements and responses to NRA-PVF questionnaires.

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America's oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group. More than five million members strong, NRA continues to uphold the Second Amendment and advocates enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the armed services.
