Fairfax, Va. – The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing Todd Akin for U.S. Senate in Missouri.
“Todd Akin has a proven record of defending the Second Amendment,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. “His strong dedication and voting record have earned him an “A” rating and endorsement from the NRA-PVF.”
While serving in Congress, Todd Akin signed the historic briefs filed before the U.S. Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago, which argued that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms for all law-abiding Americans. Akin cosponsored and voted for H.R. 822, “The National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act,” which would ensure that law-abiding Americans with valid concealed handgun permits would be able to carry a concealed handgun in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry. He also voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with congressional subpoenas related to the deadly Operation Fast and Furious scandal, and voted for an amendment to prevent the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from circumventing the will of Congress by centralizing records of thousands of Americans’ long gun purchases.
Akin voted for H.R. 4089, “The Sportsmen’s Heritage Act,” which would promote America’s hunting heritage and positively impact sportsmen throughout the country. He cosponsored and voted for the “Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act,” which protected American gun makers from being sued into bankruptcy, and he cosponsored and voted for the “Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act” and voted to prohibit gun confiscation during states of emergency. In addition, Akin voted for an amendment to repeal the D.C. gun ban/registration statute and restore the right of self-defense to law-abiding residents of our nation’s capital.
In contrast, his opponent, Claire McCaskill, has earned an “F” rating from the NRA-PVF for opposing our Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Claire McCaskill refused to join the historic District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court, making it clear that she does not believe the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms, and she voted to confirm anti-Second Amendment Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. McCaskill voted against the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity amendment, and opposed an amendment to allow concealed carry permit holders to carry and transport firearms for self-defense in national parks and wildlife refuges.
“The choice is clear in this election. Todd Akin will support our Second Amendment freedoms and hunting heritage. Claire McCaskill will not,” concluded Cox. “We urge all NRA members and gun owners in Missouri to vote Todd Akin for U.S. Senate on November 6.”
