NRA-PVF Endorses Thom Tillis for U.S. Senate in North Carolina Republican Primary

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Fairfax, Va. – The National Rifle Association's Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is proud to endorse Speaker of the North Carolina General Assembly Thom Tillis in the May 6 Republican primary for U.S. Senate in North Carolina.

"Thom has been a champion on Second Amendment issues in North Carolina," said Chris W. Cox, chairman of the NRA-PVF. "As Speaker of the North Carolina General Assembly, Thom was instrumental in passing two of the most comprehensive pro-gun reforms in state history. His record has earned him the respect of North Carolina gun owners and an 'A+' rating from the NRA-PVF."

Just last year, Speaker Tillis ensured consideration and passage of House Bill 937, which, among other things, expanded the locations in which Concealed Handgun Permit holders may carry firearms and established privacy protections for those holders.

In addition, Tillis moved House Bill 650 through the legislature in 2011, which adopted the Castle Doctrine in North Carolina; allowed for the purchase of long guns by North Carolina residents in any other state; and removed the ability of local governments to restrict CHP holders from lawfully carrying concealed firearms in parks under local control.

Tillis strongly supports national right to carry reciprocity; opposes an EPA ban on lead ammunition and components; and opposes so-called "universal" background checks that would criminalize the private transfer of a firearm between life-long friends and many family members.

"On behalf of the NRA's hundreds of thousands of members and supporters across North Carolina, we want to thank Speaker Tillis for his support of the Second Amendment. We urge our members and all North Carolina gun owners and sportsmen to vote Thom Tillis for U.S. Senate in the May 6 Republican primary," concluded Cox.

The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is responsible for political candidate ratings and endorsements. These are based on candidate voting records, public statements and responses to NRA-PVF questionnaires.
