NRA Endorses Shuster in PA Republican Primary

Wednesday, April 23, 2014

Fairfax, Va. - The National Rifle Association's Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing U.S. Representative Bill Shuster in the May 20, 2014 Republican primary in the 9th Congressional District of Pennsylvania.

Shuster earned an "A" rating from the NRA-PVF for his consistent voting record on Second Amendment issues in the U.S. House of Representatives. An "A" rating is reserved for consistently pro-gun legislators who have supported NRA positions on key votes.

"Throughout his career, Bill Shuster has steadfastly opposed gun and ammo bans, and has stood strong against Michael Bloomberg and President Obama's extreme gun control agenda," noted Chris W. Cox, chairman of the NRA-PVF.

Shuster has cosponsored H.R. 2959, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act. This bill would ensure that law-abiding Americans with valid concealed handgun permits would be able to carry a concealed handgun in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry. He cosponsored and voted for a similar bill that passed the U.S. House in 2011.

In addition, Shuster voted for H.R. 3590, the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act of 2013, a bill that protects traditional hunting ammunition as well as opens more federal lands to sportsmen. He also voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress on both criminal and civil charges for the flawed and tragic Fast and Furious scandal.

"Bill has a strong record of support for our Second Amendment freedoms," added Cox. "We encourage all NRA members and gun owners in Pennsylvania's 9th Congressional District to vote Bill Shuster for Congress on May 20."

The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is responsible for political candidate ratings and endorsements. These are based on candidate voting records, public statements and responses to NRA-PVF questionnaires.

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America's oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group. More than five million members strong, NRA continues to uphold the Second Amendment and advocates enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the armed services.
