NRA Plays Pivotal Role in Pennsylvania's 16th Congressional District Republican Primary

Fairfax, Va.— The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) today congratulated Lloyd Smucker for his win last night in the Republican Primary race for Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District. In the closing days of the hotly contested election, the NRA-PVF launched a six-figure digital and radio buy that was pivotal in securing Smucker’s victory. The NRA media buy was in addition to a district wide mail and phone campaign touting Smucker’s support of the Second Amendment and his commitment to fighting the gun-control agenda promoted by President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Smucker won the Republican nomination with 56% of the vote.

“On behalf of our five million members across the country, the National Rifle Association is proud to congratulate Lloyd Smucker on his decisive victory,” said Chris Cox, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action. “We can trust Lloyd to stand up to the gun-control agenda promoted by President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.”

Lloyd Smucker’s record of Second Amendment support includes:

  • Opposing an Unlawful Firearm Restrictions – He voted for Act 192 that prevents local jurisdictions from imposing firearm restrictions that are more restrictive than state laws.
  • Supporting an Individual’s Right to Self-defense – He supported “Castle Doctrine” legislation that allows individuals to protect themselves against death, serious bodily injury, kidnapping, and rape.

And he is committed to supporting the Second Amendment in Congress by:

  • Supporting Right-to-Carry – Lloyd Smucker is a strong supporter of concealed carry reciprocity, which would enable law-abiding Americans to carry a concealed firearm in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.
  • Opposing “Universal” Background Checks – Lloyd Smucker opposes the Obama/Bloomberg universal background check system that could criminalize the private transfer of firearms and according to the Justice Department is only enforceable through a federal government firearms registry.
  • Opposing a Federal Gun Database – Lloyd Smucker opposes ATF circumventing the will of Congress by centralizing records of thousands of Americans’ long gun purchases.
  • Opposing Semi-Auto Ban – Lloyd Smucker opposes any ban on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms used for hunting, recreations shooting, and self-defense.
  • Opposing a Federal Gun Database – Lloyd Smucker opposes ATF circumventing the will of Congress by centralizing records of thousands of Americans’ long gun purchases.

“It's important to elect leaders with a proven track record of supporting the Second Amendment. I want to thank every NRA member, gun owner and sportsman who voted for Lloyd Smucker and ask that they do so again in November," concluded Cox.
