NRA-PVF Endorses Richard Shelby for U.S. Senate

Friday, September 10, 2010

Fairfax, Va. - The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) for re-election to the U.S. Senate this November.

"Richard Shelby has earned the NRA-PVF endorsement for his unwavering pro-gun record throughout his career in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives," said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. "His commitment to preserving our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage make Sen. Shelby the obvious choice for Alabama gun owners."

Sen. Shelby successfully offered a critical amendment in the Senate Appropriations Committee to protect sensitive firearms trace data from public disclosure. He cosponsored and voted to end reckless lawsuits against America's gun manufacturers and voted to prohibit gun confiscation from law-abiding Americans during states of emergency. He also voted to repeal of the D.C. gun ban/registration statute and restore the right of self-defense to law-abiding residents of our nation's capital.

Sen. Shelby signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of our individual right to keep and bear arms in the historic Heller case. He also signed the congressional amicus brief stating that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that applies to all Americans, no matter where they live, in the McDonald case. Sen. Shelby also realizes the importance of Supreme Court appointees and voted against confirmation of anti-gun Supreme Court Justice nominees Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor.

In addition, Shelby voted for the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity amendment, which would extend federal protection of state right-to-carry licenses and permits across the country. He also voted last year to allow concealed-carry permit holders to carry and transport firearms for self-defense in national parks and wildlife refuges.

"Richard Shelby's pro-gun voting record and steadfast support for individual gun ownership rights has earned him an "A+" rating from the NRA-PVF," Cox continued. "We ask all Alabama gun-owners, hunters and NRA members to vote Richard Shelby for U.S. Senate on November 2nd."
